MEC 2nd annual golf championship

Saturday 5th September at the Tudor Park Country club just outside of Maidstone in Kent. 12 players in total contested the pairs and singles competitions, with the pairs being selected to contain two players of differing ability to aid fairness.

To add a little spice, there were two further competitions for all players to compete for the closest to the pin and longest drive competitions. The 6 pairs were split into 3 fourball groups with the first heading out at 2:15pm on an overcast day, and with the overnight rain helping the course become more receptive it looked as though we were going to see some very low scores...unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Groups and pairs Russell Aplin 31 /Luke Nunn 5 Wesley Lever 26 /Andy Lee 30 Peter Andrew 29 /Duncan Hare 33 James McDonald 33 /Richard Graham 37 James Conaty 30 /Russell White 25 Chris McGrath 24 /Alex Banks 23 With the first fourball finishing the time had come to turn and welcome the other players in (and in no way criticise their putting skills) just as the Sun was starting to set to end a thoroughly enjoyable day. A full MEC golf team photo was taken before heading to the club house to count up the scores – there was a lot of counting to do! With the scores in, the 2nd annual MEC golf championship presentation was carried out in the club house with the awards, including a substantial cash prize as follows; Best individual – Richard Graham 37 points Best Pair – Duncan Hare/Peter Andrew 42 points Closest to the pin – Chris McGrath Longest Drive – Richard Graham The MEC golf championship has grown from 8 players to 12 players this year, and will hopefully continue to grow. A big thanks to all those who attended, many of whom travelled a very long way. I look forward to seeing you all next year for the 3rd annual golf championship!
