Our works comprised the removal of a decorative elliptical recessed ceiling to the backstage area, fabrication and fitting of additional structural steelwork above this area, construction of a new ‘blower enclosure’ comprising new reinforced concrete insitu floor and roof slabs and specialised cladding with acoustic insulation, reinstatement of the ceiling to exactly match the original, application of spray applied acoustic insulation and making good of fibrous plaster mouldings. In addition further works were required to adapt the main stage, including removal of parts of the original hardwood stage floor, alteration and re-fitting to exactly match the existing.

Extremely close liaison was required with the Academy’s staff and much of the work was carried out overnight and outside normal hours. Very high standards of workmanship were required to meet the specific requirements of the organ mannufacturers and ensure all finishes matched the existing.

“We were very pleased with the service we received from ME Construction. This was potentially a complicated project that they handled with care and managed well to the Client’s satisfaction.” Simon Lewis, Aecom
